The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has demanded the dismissal of Kim Taek-kyun, president of the Badminton Association, who is suspected of violating the subsidy law.
Announcing the final results of the Badminton Association's investigation, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it calls on Chairman Kim to be dismissed and the secretary-general to impose heavy punishment.
According to a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism survey, the Badminton Association arbitrarily distributed 150 million won worth of sponsored goods led by Chairman Kim Taek-kyun last year and signed a written contract for 140 million won worth of sponsored goods this year, violating the subsidy law.
He also pointed out that signing a private contract worth 2.6 billion won with a sponsor over the past two years is also a violation of the subsidy law.
In addition, we separately asked the police to investigate the alleged embezzlement and breach of trust of sponsored goods revealed in this investigation.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to officially demand the dismissal of Chairman Kim Taek-kyun from the Korea Sports Council and start the process of designating a management organization if the sports association does not accept it.
If it is finally designated as a management organization, all executives of related sports associations will be automatically dismissed.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said there is a possibility that there may be similar problems with other sports associations as well as badminton associations, but it will focus on improving the system rather than starting an investigation immediately.
