September this year was the hottest month ever, and the rain was recorded as the same month in midsummer, with more than 50% more rain than usual.

In September's climate analysis data released today (8th), the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said that the national average temperature in September was 24.7 degrees, 4.2 degrees higher than the average, and precipitation was 12th, 85.9 mm higher than the average.

In particular, heat has set new records in many areas, with an average number of days of heat waves nationwide, far exceeding 1.3 days in 2010, and 4.3 days of tropical nights, more than four times the number of days in 1992.

Forty-six of the 66 major weather observation points in the country also broke the record for the highest temperature on September.

This midsummer-like September is because the Tibetan high pressure and the North Pacific high pressure, which have been covering the Korean sky since late July, remained in place until mid-September.

In the lower atmosphere, water vapor was constantly flowing along the edge of the North Pacific high pressure, raising humidity, and tropical nights were severe.

The national average precipitation in September was 241mm, 54% more than usual, especially on the 20th and 21st, with very heavy rain mainly on the southern coast.

The Korea Meteorological Administration cited "increased convective activity in the North Indian Ocean" as the reason for the development of Tibetan high pressure in the upper and lower layers of Korea, and "increased convective activity near the Philippines" as the reason for the development of North Pacific high pressure in the middle and lower layers of Korea.
