A lot of snow continues on the west coast for several days because the atmospheric flow is stagnant and the cold air continues to come down.

Today (9th) is the peak of the cold wave.

The first cold wave warning was also issued in Seoul this winter.

Reporter Kim Min-kyung's report.

Clouds made in the West Sea constantly enter the West Coast. As the cold air of

passed through the relatively warm West Sea, clouds developed due to a large temperature difference, which came in with strong northwest winds and poured heavy snow in Chungnam and Jeonbuk.

About 15cm in Jeollabuk-do, including 16cm in Bokheung-myeon, Sunchang, Jeollabuk-do, and 12.7cm in Julpo, Buan,

Snow accumulated about 10cm in the west of some parts of Chungnam and Gyeongnam.

Even with a lot of snow already, the snow on the west coast will not stop, and it will fall 30cm more in Jeonbuk and 20cm more in Jeollanam-do and Chungnam by early tomorrow morning.

The reason for the prolonged snowfall is that as the upper atmospheric flow stagnates, low pressure hovers in place and continues to send down cold air below minus 40 degrees Celsius.

The upper cold air, which has brought a lot of snow to the west coast, covers our country this time and freezes the whole country in a strong cold wave.

As the cold is expected to reach its peak, cold wave warnings have increased or strengthened in many inland areas, and the first cold wave warning has been issued in Seoul this winter.

The temperature in Seoul morning is expected to drop to minus 12 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow, and especially this morning's wind chill is expected to drop to minus 19 degrees Celsius.

[Kim Dong-soo / Korea Meteorological Administration Forecaster |: The cold air southward will continue to be below freezing during the day on the 9th and 10th, and the central inland will be very cold as the morning minimum temperature drops to around minus 12 degrees Celsius]

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that the strongest cold wave this winter will peak today and tomorrow and then gradually ease from the weekend afternoon.
