The Chungnam National Police Agency's Criminal Task Force handed over 38 drivers to the prosecution without detention, with the owner A in his 30s arrested for illegally operating a call taxi.

Mr. A is accused of setting up a proxy driver's office in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, and illegally operating a call taxi for about two years, earning an unfair advantage worth 100 million won.

According to a police investigation, the drivers used their rented cars or private cars to operate illegally at 30% lower cost than normal call taxis, and A received about 300,000 won per month from the drivers as a mediation fee.

The police said they were concerned about secondary crimes against passengers because some drivers had a history of violent crimes, and stressed that they could not get insurance or other help in case of an accident while using a relatively cheap illegal call taxi.
