The Seoul Transportation Corporation's labor union, which operates Seoul Subway Line 1 to 8, has launched a so-called compliance struggle ahead of a general strike on the 6th of next month.

Some subway trains on their way to work have been disrupted, but there are concerns that if negotiations break down and the strike actually begins, there will be a traffic disturbance in the Seoul metropolitan area at the end of the year.

A train carrying all passengers on the platform of the Seoul subway station is stopped with the door open.

Train operations have been delayed as the Seoul Transportation Corporation's labor union has launched a so-called "rule operation" struggle to strictly keep breaks and stops.

Citizens on their way to work suffered large and small inconveniences in arriving late trains than usual,

[Park Ji-hye / Songnae-dong, Dongducheon-si, Gyeonggi-do: I departed from Jihaeng Station (Line 1), but the train came a little late and I think it was about 20 minutes late.]

Citizens who left home early also did not escape the congestion.

[Park Chan-gil / Choam-dong, Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do: I heard you were fighting against the law, so I came out about 10 minutes earlier, but I don't think there was much trouble. But since there were a lot of people, it was uncomfortable.]

Congestion increased due to the railroad union's unemployment,

Corail said 23 out of 470 trains in the Seoul metropolitan area were delayed by more than 20 minutes from the first train at 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Seoul Transportation Corporation union demanded a wage increase and more manpower from the management, signaling that if the negotiations break down, it will go on a general strike on the 6th of next month and continue compliance until then.

On top of that, the third union also held a strike ceremony and said it would decide whether to participate in the general strike through a vote of pros and cons, raising concerns about traffic chaos in the Seoul metropolitan area at the end of the year.

[Song Si-young / Chairman of the 3rd Seoul Transportation Corporation's 'Right Labor Union' : Now I'm looking forward to raising the legal minimum wage. This ridiculous pay treatment has led to new employees leaving the line every year.

In response, the Seoul Transportation Corporation confronts the restructuring target, saying that it is a manpower that has nothing to do with safety and that wage increases should take into account poor financial conditions, so train operations are inevitable for the time being.
