A man in his 50s who crossed the center line while driving under the influence of alcohol and went on a rampage by swearing at the police who went on a crackdown was released on probation at the appeal trial.
Chuncheon District Court sentenced 54-year-old A, who was charged with drunk driving, to two years in prison, suspended for three years, and ordered him to take 40 hours of compliance driving lectures.
Mr. A was put on trial in June on charges of driving 12 kilometers from Jeongseon, Gangwon-do to Taebaek while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.205%.
As a result of the investigation, A was found to have committed atrocities by swearing at police officers who were driving and cracking down across the central line at the time and refusing to sign documents related to alcohol testing.
Earlier, the first trial court sentenced him to prison for lacking awareness or guilt about drunk driving, such as driving to drink more even though he was intoxicated.
The appeals court, which reviewed A's claim that the sentence was unfair due to heavy punishment, sentenced him to a suspended prison sentence, saying that he would have realized the seriousness of drunk driving while in detention for a considerable period of time after the first trial, and that if the accused is locked up for a long time, the dependents will be in excessive trouble.
