Gyeonggi Province announced the lifting of the Songtan Water Resources Protection Zone in Pyeongtaek and Yongin.
The area is 3.859 square kilometers, including Bongnam, Masan, Dongcheon, and Eunsan-ri, Jinwi-myeon, Pyeongtaek-si, and Bongmyeong and Jinmok-ri, Namsa-eup, Yongin-si, and will be lifted after 45 years of designation as a water source protection zone.
The cancellation comes after the site of the "Yongin Mobile and Namsa Advanced Semiconductor National Industrial Complex" was partially included in the Songtan Water Resources Protection Zone.
Samsung Electronics plans to invest 360 trillion won in the national industrial complex to create six semiconductor production lines.
Songtan Water Purification Plant supplied 15,000 tons of household water per day to Pyeongtaek citizens, and since the facility was closed last month, Paldang Dam has been supplying household water through metropolitan water pipes.
