[Capture News] Is there no option for 尹 to voluntarily resign from 'emergency martial law'?

2024.12.04 PM 08:02
President Yoon Suk Yeol declared the lifting of the emergency martial law, but again criticized the opposition's successive impeachment and passage of the budget bill.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / President: I ask the National Assembly to immediately stop the atrocities that paralyze the functioning of the state through repeated impeachment, legislative and budgetary abuses]

It is interpreted as an intention to emphasize that the opposition party's actions were illegal and that it played a role as president and that emergency martial law was justified.

While declaring an emergency martial law that is expected to be blocked by the large opposition party, he stressed that he would continue his role as president rather than preparing for it at all.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / President: We will protect a free Republic by offering our gods.]

For this reason, it seems unlikely that the opposition party will choose to voluntarily resign.

There are many observations that the ruling party, especially in close circles, will not take the path of stepping down on its own as there are a series of voices calling for the second impeachment to be prevented.

However, if the National Assembly votes on the impeachment motion, it is impossible to voluntarily resign, so it is difficult to argue.

A vote-off according to the ruling and opposition parties' counting laws, including judicial risks between representative Han Dong-hoon and representative Lee Jae-myung, who are seeking the next presidential election, is expected to determine President Yoon's future.

As key aides also made unexpected calls for declaring emergency martial law, there are concerns that President Yoon may take another unexpected step.
