The Korea Communications Standards Commission held its first face-to-face meeting with Telegram and was promised zero tolerance for illegal information such as deepfake sex crime videos.

Ryu Hee-rim, chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, held a briefing today (30th) and announced the results of a face-to-face meeting with Telegram to respond to deepfake sex crimes.

In a two-day face-to-face meeting over the weekend, Ryu said Telegram promised multilateral cooperation on illegal information such as drugs and gambling as well as digital sex crimes.

He also expressed his intention to actively accept requests from the Korea Communications Standards Commission, which has exclusive authority to review content such as determining illegality, and to consult with the Korea National Police Agency and the Korea Communications Commission in a forward-looking manner.

An official from the Korea Communications Standards Commission explained on Telegram that if anyone is involved in the crime, they will be able to provide their ID and phone number to the investigation authorities.

In addition, in addition to the existing hotline with Telegram, a separate additional hotline that allows constant contact with dedicated staff will be opened and working-level consultations will be held regularly.
