Electricity prices 'highest progressive' surpass 10 million generations in August

Last month, an unusual heat wave showed that more than 10 million households were subject to the highest electricity rate progressive plan.

According to the data received by Rep. Jang Chul-min of the Democratic Party of Korea from KEPCO, 11.22 million households out of 25 million households in Korea are in the third stage, the highest progressive section of electricity prices.

It's the highest number, 41% of the total.

Applying the progressive system to household electricity bills is to induce energy conservation by economically disadvantaging some households that use relatively more electricity.

However, some point out that the summer progressive system has been the same standard for the seventh year, so it does not properly reflect economic and social changes such as weather changes and the expansion of electronics use.

It is also pointed out that it gives economic disadvantages to users who have a large amount of electricity use due to the large number of household members, such as having two children.
