Rocket attack on U.S. military base in Baghdad, Iraq...shoot down an air defense system

A rocket attack targeted a U.S. military base in Iraq shortly before Israel launched a limited ground war.

Iraqi officials say at least two "Katsusha" rockets were fired at a U.S. military base near Baghdad's international airport.

The rocket is said to have been shot down by air defenses.

In Iraq, since the start of the Gaza war in October last year, Iranian-backed militants have been attempting a series of attacks targeting U.S. military bases.

In August, five U.S. personnel were injured when two Kachusha rockets landed at Ain al-Assad air base in western Iraq.

There are currently about 2,500 U.S. troops in Iraq.
