One of the four elementary, middle, and high school buildings nationwide is more than 40 years old.

According to the data received by the Democratic Party of Korea's lawmaker Jin Sun-mi's office from the Ministry of Education, the total number of school buildings nationwide that are more than 40 years old is 14,500, which is close to 24%.

By region, Seoul had the most at 35%, followed by Gyeongbuk, Busan, and Jeonbuk.

Despite the large number of old buildings, there were about 1,240 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools that received less safety inspections than the legal standard last year.

According to the current Education Facility Act, the head of the education facility is required to undergo safety inspections at least twice a year.
