One National Cancer Center employee experienced a radiation exposure accident.

An accident occurred in which one employee of the National Cancer Center was exposed to radiation.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said that at around 12:50 p.m. today (7th), a linear accelerator was activated while an employee of the National Cancer Center was staying in a linear accelerator room, causing a radiation exposure accident.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission added that it was briefed on the radiation exposure accident at around 5:22 p.m. by the National Cancer Center and guided the exposed person to be transferred to the Korea Atomic Energy Academy.

In addition, experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety and Technology and KINS (Kins) were dispatched to the National Cancer Center to investigate the incident, and they will investigate the details of the accident through field investigations and exposure to the victims, and conduct an exposure dose evaluation.

Currently, there are five linear accelerators in the National Cancer Center, which are operated for patient treatment, and are licensed devices prescribed by the Nuclear Safety Act.
