Five visitors died while watching an Air Force air show in India during a heat wave.

According to foreign media, at least five people were killed and 40 hospitalized among visitors to an air show marking the 92nd anniversary of the Air Force's founding on the southern Indian city of Chennai on the 6th local time.

1.5 million people flocked to watch the air show amid a heatwave that saw daytime highs soar near 36 degrees Celsius, and several people fainted from heat and dehydration, the attendee said.

With a total distance of 13 km, Marina Beach is the second longest urban beach in the world.

Heatstroke is believed to be the main cause of death, and local media reported that participants left the venue all at once after the air show at 1 p.m., causing casualties.

Opposition parties have accused the government of failing to properly control the large crowds at the venue and causing the accident.

Governor Stalin of the Chennai-led state of Tamil Nadu said, "The extreme heat and various medical causes have caused deaths," adding, "We took measures to prevent the venue from being crowded, but there were far more attendees than expected."
