Starting next year, parental leave benefits will be raised from up to 1.5 million won to 2.5 million won per month, and the "post-payment" system, which gives 25% of parental leave benefits six months after reinstatement, will be abolished.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced today (8th) that it will announce legislation from the 10th to revise some of the subordinate laws of the Gender Equality Act, the Employment Insurance Act, and the Employment Industrial Insurance Premium Collection Act.

The revision includes details such as an increase in parental leave benefits included in the government's low birth rate measures announced in June.

First of all, the salary cap for workers on parental leave will rise from the current 1.5 million won per month to 2.5 million won per month in the first to third months, 2 million won in the fourth to sixth months, and 1.6 million won after the seventh month.

If one year of parental leave is used, the current salary is up to 18 million won, but it will increase by 5.1 million won to 23.1 million won from next year.

When workers in single-parent families take parental leave, the upper limit will rise from 2.5 million won per month for the first three months to 3 million won.

In addition, 25% of the salary will be paid after six months of return to work in the name of encouraging them to return to work after parental leave, and they will be able to receive the full amount during the parental leave period from next year.

The new system will be applied from January next year, but if there is a remaining period in 2025 after already starting parental leave this year, the changed system will also be applied during that period.
