"Shinwar, a 'supermotor', orders resumption of suicide bombings after more than 20 years"

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Hamas, an armed Palestinian faction, has decided to resume suicide bombing attacks, which are considered extreme terrorist acts, for the first time in more than 20 years.

Hamas opted for a more radical fighting line after hard-line Yahya Sinwar was elected as the top political leader and later ordered Sinwar to resume suicide bombings against Israel, according to Arab intelligence officials.

Hamas carried out suicide bombings until the early 2000s, but they stopped after it had a negative impact on international public opinion and criticism within Palestine.

Due to these circumstances, Hamas was concerned about the order to resume suicide bombings, but it was reported that it did not oppose Sinwar.

Sinwar is at the heart of the extremists, who even within Hamas say that civilian sacrifices are inevitable in order to hurt Israel.

Sinwar was the architect of a terrorist operation that attacked Israel in October last year, killing more than 1,200 people and kidnapping more than 250 people, and was elected as the new leader after Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran's capital Tehran in July.

Sinwar is also said to have opposed the previous Hamas leadership's ceasefire deal with Israel.

Some Hamas leaders have reportedly been unhappy with the hard line, criticizing Sinwar as "over-paranoid" in private.
