The painting of Monet, a painter plundered by Nazi Germany from a Jewish businessman, has been returned to the descendants of Aboriginal people after more than 80 years.

The FBI's art investigation team returned Claude Monet's 1865 pastel painting Sea to the granddaughter of original owner Adalbert Parlagi.

A wealthy Austrian businessman, Parlaggi fled to Britain in 1938 with all his fortune when Nazi Germany annexed Austria and went on to slaughter Jews.

After that, he tried to find the artwork he had left behind, but the Nazis confiscated all of Parlagi's property and sold it to auction.

Parlaggi and his descendants did not give up and tracked the whereabouts of the stolen painting, and with the help of the European Commission on Looted Art and the FBI, they found out that the painting in question was sold in the United States in 2017 and received it back from the winning bidder.

Parlagi's granddaughter said she has many families in the same situation as her and hopes her case gives hope to other families.
