In Argentina, a bill to strengthen financial support for national universities was rejected by President Javier Milay's veto and then discarded without exceeding the quorum of the re-decision.

A vote by Argentina's lower house of parliament on the 9th local time showed that the university financial aid law was abolished with 160 votes in favor, more than two-thirds of the total seats, six votes short.

When the bill was abandoned, protesters gathered near the parliament clashed with police, creating a tense situation.

Argentina's economic situation has deteriorated, with inflation hitting triple digits recently, with citizens protesting cuts to the government's education and health budgets.

Milay argues that expanding university financial aid would lead to a wider fiscal deficit, leading to a long-term economic crisis.

Considering inflation, real wages for faculty and staff at public universities in Argentina are estimated to have fallen by 40%.
