Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with Chinese State Council Prime Minister Li Chang in Vientiane, Laos, to discuss the resumption of imports of Japanese seafood and the attack on Japanese children, Kyodo News reported.

This is the first time Prime Minister Ishiba has faced Prime Minister Li Chang since taking office, and the talks lasted 30 minutes.

At the meeting held on the occasion of the ASEAN summit, Prime Minister Ishiba demanded that China lift the ban on imports of Japanese seafood, which was initiated last year, early in response to the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

In addition, he urged Japanese residents in China to find out the facts and ensure Japanese safety in the wake of the death of a Japanese school child in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China last month.

Prime Minister Li Chang said, "We are willing to use the export control dialogue mechanism to stabilize industrial networks and supply chains and protect the global free trade system together," according to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kyodo News reported that the two prime ministers decided to use the ministerial-level "high-level economic dialogue between China and Japan" to move forward with cooperation.
