German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said he will continue to export weapons to Israel.

"We have not decided to stop the supply of weapons," Scholz said at a memorial event for Israel's victims at the German parliament on the 10th local time. We will continue to supply it," he said.

Scholz, however, did not elaborate on what equipment would be sent.

The comments came not long after Friedrich Merz, leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), accused the German federal government of "refusing to permit the export of ammunition and tank parts over the past weeks and months."

Germany, Israel's closest ally, has valued Israeli security as a reflection on the Nazi Holocaust.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, however, the Israeli military has refrained from providing direct military aid, including a virtual halt to arms exports, as fears of a humanitarian catastrophe have risen over the Israeli bombardment of Palestinian refugee camps.

Scholz's stance also contrasts with French President Emmanuel Macron's recent call for an end to the war in Gaza to stop supplying weapons to Israel.
