The Supreme Court canceled the "Free Ilsan Bridge" policy, which Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, last approved before resigning as governor of Gyeonggi Province.

The Supreme Court yesterday (10th) confirmed the lower court's ruling in favor of the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd. against Gyeonggi Province to cancel the designation of the project operator.

In 2021, Gyeonggi Province issued a public interest disposition to cancel the designation of Ilsan Bridge as a project operator to make Ilsan Bridge free of traffic and made traffic free from October 27.

The disposition of public interest is a system in which local governments cancel the right to manage and operate private businesses for the public interest and compensate them, and the operator applied for suspension of execution and filed a lawsuit on the main issue, saying that Gyeonggi Province's disposition was unfair.

As the court accepted the request for suspension of execution, traffic became charged again in about 20 days, and the court ruled in favor of Ilsan Bridge in the main lawsuit.
