China has negotiated with the European Union and the EU over tariffs on its electric vehicles for more than 15 days, but says it has failed to reach an agreement due to wide differences of opinion.

According to local media such as the Chinese Newspaper Network, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said, "For about 20 days from the 20th of last month, the China-EU negotiation team held a total of eight intensive consultations in Brussels, Belgium."

"While both sides have made significant progress in some areas, unfortunately, the European side has never actively responded to key concerns of China and European industries," the spokesperson added.

"China's attitude and sincerity to seek a solution through dialogue and consultation remain unchanged," the spokesman continued. "We have officially asked Europe to send a negotiating team to China as soon as possible to continue face-to-face consultations next step."

It also warned that reports that the EU Commission is negotiating separate prices with some Chinese electric vehicle companies could "shake the negotiating base and mutual trust and harm the overall progress of negotiations."

Earlier on the 4th, the EU passed a final tariff plan that imposes tariffs of up to 45.3% on Chinese electric vehicles from the end of this month through a vote of 27 member states.

Ten countries, including France and Italy, voted in favor and five countries, including Germany and Hungary, voted against it, while the other 12 voted to abstain, which is considered in fact in favor.

The EU plans to continue negotiations with China, so there is a possibility that the imposition of final tariffs will be suspended once the negotiations are concluded, but if the agreement is completely canceled, the trade dispute between the EU and China will intensify.
