British Translator Releases to the World of Han River "Lovely Reactions from Korea"

British translator Deborah Smith, who is considered to be the main player in promoting the work of Han Kang, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature, introduced readers' and writers' reactions to Han Kang's win on social media one after another.


Smith shared an English article on social media X about civic reactions in a domestic newspaper and introduced them as "lovely reactions from Korea."

A Korean female reader in her 30s quoted a double quotation saying, "Those who want to give up their lives and turn their backs on them should read Han Kang's book."

Smith also shared an English article written by Japanese author Sakiko Kawano under the title "Han River Reading in Japanese," explaining, "Japanese readers already have eight books of Han River that they can enjoy, including essays on poetry, short stories, and music."

Smith is a translator who translated "The Vegetarian" and co - won the 2016 British prestigious literary award for international booker.

On the 13th, he posted Han Kang's remarks on his social media that he would not hold a press conference.

At the time, Smith shared an English article in the Korean media and quoted sentences such as, "The war is so fierce that people are carried away every day, so what kind of party would they have?"
