Lebanon's pro-Iranian militant group Hezbollah has reiterated the need for a ceasefire.

According to Israeli daily Haaretz and other reports, Hezbollah's second-in-command, Deputy Secretary-General Naim Qasem, said in a speech on the 15th local time, "Let Israel know that the ceasefire is the solution."

At the same time, Deputy Secretary-General Qasem reiterated his hardline stance, saying, "If Israel does not want to, we will continue the fight and we will cause pain."

Qasem put the condition that in the event of a cease-fire, Hezbollah would retreat 10km backward, but that a cease-fire should also take place in Gaza.

We do not lose because this is the land of insurgents, he said. "As Israel has targeted all of Lebanon, we have the right to target anywhere in the central, northern and southern parts of Israel from a defensive standpoint."

Deputy Secretary-General Qasem also said on the 8th that he supports the political activities led by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabi Berry in the name of a ceasefire.

At the same time, he noted that "other details could be discussed once the ceasefire is reached and the diplomatic arena opens."

The Israeli military has not stopped its offensive against Hezbollah since it entered the ground war in southern Lebanon on the 30th of last month.

Hezbollah has yet to decide on a replacement since Hasan Nasrallah, the secretary-general, was killed in an Israeli air strike on April 27.
