Ministry of Science and ICT's Briefing on the Discovery of Electronic Crystal Pieces in Solid Materials for the First Time in the World
A domestic research team has discovered an 'electronic crystal' piece that binds electrons and electrons.

A research team led by Professor Kim Geun-soo of Yonsei University has discovered for the first time in the world that electrons can form "electronic crystal" pieces with both liquid and solid characteristics.

Unlike atoms, electrons are not regularly arranged, but Eugene Wigner, winner of the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics, proposed a theory that as the density of solid matter decreases, electrons will push each other to form 'electronic crystals' that are regularly arranged.

This 'electronic crystal' piece is an experimental demonstration of Wigner's theory using a radiation accelerator and black phosphorus.

Professor Kim Geun-soo said that the reason he does not fully understand the high-temperature superconducting phenomenon is that he does not know what the force that binds electrons and electrons is,

This experiment found that electrons form a local but constant arrangement, which could be the starting point for unraveling the secrets of high-temperature superconductors or superfluid phenomena in the future.
