A husband in his 30s, who threw his wife into the sea and killed her by throwing stones, was sentenced to 28 years in prison when he was found to have been unfaithful.

According to the legal community on the 17th, the first division of the Supreme Court (Chief Justice Seo Kyung-hwan) confirmed the court ruling on the 27th of last month that sentenced A, who was charged with murder.

A was accused of pushing his wife B in her 30s into the sea and killing her at 2:40 a.m. on July 15 last year on the banks of Jamjindo Island in Deokgyo-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon.

At that time, when A's wife, who fell into the sea due to the shallow depth of water, tried to come up again, A was found to have hit her head with a stone nearby or pulled her directly toward the water to drown her.

After the crime, A reported to 119 and lied, saying, "While I went to the car to get my luggage, my wife was drifting away in the sea." He also made a trace of sending a message as if his wife had actually disappeared and found it.

However, the Coast Guard confirmed the circumstances in which A killed his wife B through closed-circuit (CC) TV videos near the scene and digital forensics analysis of mobile phones.

Mr. A, who married Mr. B in 2020, was caught by Mr. B in the same year. Since then, it has been investigated that he had a strong complaint about the idea of being excessively monitored by B.

On the day of the crime, A found out that B had purchased a luxury bag while traveling to Jamjin Island for a fishing trip, and decided to kill B, who could not swim, in the water because he thought he could not continue his marriage.

The first trial court sentenced A to 23 years in prison, and the second trial increased the sentence to 28 years in prison, saying, "The sentence of the original trial is unfair because it is light."

"If there was no video recorded on CCTV, which is military surveillance data, it may have been treated as a real death as the accused intended," the court said at the time. "It is difficult to gauge the fear and physical and mental pain felt by the victim, who was brutally killed by her husband, who believed in him at night."
