New elaborate murals have been discovered in the ruins of Pompeii, an ancient Roman city that was destroyed by volcanic eruptions, preserved almost in its original form.

The newly excavated house is small but is decorated with unusually many murals, the Pompeii Archaeological Park said.

Various works such as Nymphs and Satyr, Venus and Adonis, as well as murals on the Greek tragedy Paidra and Hippolytus, remain vivid throughout the walls of the house.

The park explained that the level of murals is not only high, but it is as much as found in a larger mansion excavated near the capital of the work.

Pompeii, in southern Italy, was a very prosperous city, but it was destroyed by the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79 A.D.
