The Game Rating and Administration Committee is in charge of classifying games in Korea.

However, it was pointed out that the review of this grade classification is dependent on the individual members' tendencies without consistent standards.

Reporter Choi Kwang-hyun covered it.

This is the minutes of the Game Rating and Administration Committee's classification meeting released in August.

This is the deliberation record of the game "New Danganronpa V3", which was rejected in 2017 and could not be released.

A member of the committee argued that the "New Danganron faction v3" refuses to classify the rating because it is dangerous to "encourage crime and can be brainwashed if repeated."

He also revealed his personal feelings that the game was "offending to be seen enjoying murder."

The game rating is decided by a majority vote by nine rating members based on reports submitted by researchers who have played the game themselves.

However, the previous Danganronpa series continued to pass the rating review as "youth unavailable," but the 2017 release game, which had similar contents, was rejected at all.

When a researcher pointed out this part, it turned out that the member, who refused to judge the rating, dismissed it, saying, "Since people have changed, the previous judgment is only a reference."

This is why some point out that members judge the game at their discretion without objective standards.

This is not the first time there has been a controversy over classification.

In 2022, the subculture game "Blue Archive" was also upgraded from "15-year-old user" to "youth unavailable" due to its sensitivity.

It is a game that has been judged to be 12 years old in the global world and 7 years old in Android, Japan.

Over the past two years, there have been as many as 434 adult games that have been denied grade classification based on the game distribution network Steam and more than 17 games per month.

As controversy and criticism continued, the Game Rating and Administration Committee explained the situation, saying, "There were practical difficulties due to fewer manpower."

"We are revising the rating classification regulations to increase the universality and validity of game rating decisions," it said.
