An amendment to the Framework Act on the Management of Charges, which mandates the duration of levies, called "shadow taxes," was deliberated and decided at the Cabinet meeting today.

It is the first time that the bill has been completely revised since the introduction of the levy law in 2002 as a follow-up to the government's plan to strengthen the levy maintenance and management system announced in March.

The government plans to remove the exemption rule for the duration of the levy in the amendment and periodically check the feasibility of all levies with a duration of up to 10 years.

It also decided to set up a levy dispute mediation committee to resolve the levy-related disputes quickly.

The government plans to submit an amendment to the levy law to the National Assembly early next month.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said, "We will actively consult with the National Assembly to quickly pass the amendment to the levy law along with the abolition and amendment of 21 laws to abolish 18 levies submitted at the end of July."
