Another ruling has been made that the state should compensate the victims and bereaved families of the arson killer Ahn In-deuk, who caused more than 20 casualties.
The Seoul Central District Court ruled today (30th) that the state should pay 132 million won in a damage suit filed by five people, including A, against the state.
Earlier, Jinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, guided A and others on procedures related to the state compensation lawsuit, and the victims and their bereaved families filed a lawsuit on April 9, a week before the expiration of the statute of limitations.
In 2021, four other victims' bereaved families also filed a state compensation suit, claiming that the police responded complacently and led to the disaster, and a court ruled in November last year that the state should pay about 400 million won.
An In-deuk was sentenced to life in prison by the Supreme Court in April 2019 for setting fire to an apartment in Jinju and then wielding a weapon against evacuating residents, killing five residents and wounding 17 others.
