Two people were injured in a major fire at a nuclear submarine shipyard by British defense company BAE Systems, CNN and others reported.

At around 0:44 a.m. local time on the 30th, a fire broke out at the BAE shipyard in Barrow-In-Furness, a port city in the northwestern English region of Kumbria.

Two people who are believed to have inhaled smoke from the fire have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Local police said there were "no nuclear risk factors" and explained that everyone inside the main building facility, Devonshire Dockhall, had been evacuated.

It also advised nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed and stay indoors.

Europe's second-largest indoor shipyard, it is said to be building four Dred Note-class nuclear submarines to replace the Royal Navy's Vanguard-class nuclear submarines by early 2030.
