U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken diagnosed that the U.S. is facing threats from Russia and China, which are working with North Korea and Iran.
Secretary Blinken made the remarks in a speech at the State Department's Diplomatic Research Institute, pointing to Russia and China as revisionist forces seeking to change the core fundamental principles of the international system.
In particular, he evaluated that only China has the economic, diplomatic, technological and military competitiveness to shape a new era of international affairs.
However, he said he had achieved a previously unimaginable level of strategic convergence with allies and partners in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and that he was increasingly working together to address the problems China poses.
He then stressed that he is not asking other countries to choose between China and the United States, but that "we are working to improve the value that partnerships with the United States can meet economic needs and aspirations."
