Yesterday (30th), an accident occurred in an apartment complex in Gwangju, in which a seventh-year elementary school student A (7) was hit by a recycling vehicle and died.

Residents were saddened by the news of Ms. A's accident, which was devastated on the familiar road she used to travel every day.

On one side of the accident site, several chrysanthemum flowers were neatly placed in memory.

Some residents bought chocolate milk or snacks and left them there.

Residents with children of the same age as Ms. A visited the accident site with their children and shared their sadness.

Earlier at around 1:20 p.m. yesterday, Ms. A was hit by a 5-ton household waste transport vehicle that was backing up at a separate collection center of an apartment complex in Shinyong-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju.Miss A was seriously injured in this accident

and lost her life at the scene.

According to a police investigation, the warning lights were not turned on in the vehicle at the time of the accident, and there was no warning sound indicating reverse.

There was also a possibility that safety training for recycling collection workers was not properly conducted.

The bereaved family of A complained, "It was an accident that could have been prevented even if the worker got out of the vehicle in advance and looked around."

The police will charge B with death under the Special Act on Handling Traffic Accidents and investigate the circumstances of the accident and where he/she is responsible.
