ASM, a global semiconductor company in the Netherlands, has decided to invest 3 trillion won in Gyeonggi Province by 2030.

A working group between Gyeonggi-do and Dutch local governments will also be operated to cooperate in advanced future industries.

Reporter Choi Myung-shin reports from the Netherlands.

Governor of Gyeonggi-do Province Kim Dong-yeon, Hwaseong Mayor Chung Myung-geun, and ASM CEO Hichem M-Sad were present at ASM headquarters.

This is for ASM to sign an agreement to invest 1.5 trillion won in Gyeonggi Province within the next three years and an additional 1.5 trillion won by 2030.

It also includes purchasing semiconductor parts in Gyeonggi-do, where ASM's Korean factory is located, and hiring graduates from universities in Gyeonggi-do first.

[Hichem M.S.D. / ASM CEO: I think today's agreement will open a new chapter in our cooperation and produce a lot of mutually beneficial results for Gyeonggi Province and ASM]

ASM is a manufacturer of semiconductor wafer equipment and is the world's No. 1 maker of atomic layer deposition (ALD) equipment.

It is currently building a 14,600㎡ research and manufacturing innovation center in Dongtan, Hwaseong, by 27, and if the investment goes smoothly, the world's largest "semiconductor megacluster" is expected to be created.

[Kim Dong-yeon / Gyeonggi Governor: We are very happy as a governor because the MOU contains plans to further strengthen win-win cooperation]

[Jung Myung-geun / Hwaseong Mayor: I hope that Gyeonggi-do, Hwaseong-si, and ASM will develop together once again and become a semiconductor mecca.]

Cooperation in the high-tech industry with Gyeonggi-do Province and the Netherlands' North Brabant Province will also be greatly strengthened.

North Brabant is the largest economy in the Netherlands, where global semiconductor company ASML and global company Philips are located.

The two local governments agreed to form working groups in five areas, including semiconductors, climate technology, and smart agriculture, to cooperate closely.

[Kim Dong-yeon / Gyeonggi Governor: (Semiconductor, Climate Tech) We are very happy to open a new horizon on smart agriculture, youth-youth exchange, cultural exchange, and five others.]

Governor Kim also met with ASML management and urged the smooth implementation of the joint research center, which was originally scheduled to be established in Hwaseong with Samsung Electronics.

Governor Kim, who attracted $200 million in investment from the U.S. two weeks ago, succeeded in attracting another large-scale investment from the Netherlands, and it is said that achieving 100 trillion investment within his term is in sight.
