A UFO descended on Haebangchon Market?a neighborhood-changing architecture

There is a growing interest in public architecture that can benefit more citizens than private architecture.

It is said that the whole atmosphere of the neighborhood has changed with the brilliant ideas of architects.

Reporter Kim Seung-hwan introduces what kind of architecture it is.

■Haebangchon 'Cloud' (Seoul Metropolitan Government Building Target)
The first village under Namsan Mountain, ∀, sees a transparent structure sitting like a UFO in the light of Liberation Village.

What is the identity of this building that combines with no sense of alienation from its surroundings?

A traditional market with no sunlight and poor ventilation.

The asbestos slate roof that covered it was changed after six years of design and construction.

It weighs only one-hundredth of the glass, but the main character is a strong new material roof called "Cloud."

We received the Seoul Metropolitan Government Architecture Grand Prize this year.

These pillars supporting transparent structures are bent so as not to interfere with store operations.

If you look at the whole building, the 12 bunches of columns are like branches supporting the whole structure.

The new roof has good lighting and good ventilation, so not only the first floor, but also the second floor, the third floor, and the rooftop have a variety of stores.

After changing the entire roof, it became a favorite place for the younger generation with an exotic atmosphere, and the sales of stores also jumped.

■Odong Forest Library (Best Architecture Award)

This was originally a place to crush waste wood, but there were many complaints from residents due to dust and noise.

The place that used to be has now been transformed into the 'most beautiful library in the country'.

A small library less than 100 pyeong in the forest full of green trees, just as a baby is in her mother's arms.

Natural light comes through the low sloping roof, making you feel like you've brought a forest into the library.

The furniture in which the book is inserted becomes the structure of the building, and the unique interior shape that makes up the entire space again attracts attention.

It contains the hope that it will be a "healthy architecture" where citizens can rest comfortably while reading books here.
