A female university student in Iran was reportedly arrested after demonstrating in underwear to protest a crackdown on hijab wearing inside a school.
On the 2nd of local time, X and other social media spread a two-minute and 39-second video of a woman wearing underwear in broad daylight on the campus of Islamic Azad University of Science in Tehran, the capital of Iran.
In the video, a small car stops next to the woman, who was walking on the road for a long time, catches the woman, puts her in the car, and disappears somewhere.
A netizen who posted the video said, "This student did not back down even after being bullied by 'morality police' for inappropriate hijab wearing," adding, "I marched through campus protesting with only underwear."
The university said, "Campus security for students who committed obscene acts on campus. After taking action, Won gave it to the law enforcement agency," Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported.
"Iranian authorities must immediately release a violently arrested university student unconditionally," said the Iranian branch of the human rights group Amnesty International in a statement. "Before release, authorities should not torture him and other abuses and ensure contact with his family and lawyers."
Masud Pejesikyan, a centrist and reformist politician who pledged to ease the crackdown on hijab wearing, was newly sworn in as president in July this year, but the crackdown on hijab remains controversial.
