A student who was treated as a "nerd" who only played games in school has become a drone sniper who catches Russian troops.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Oleksandro Darkno, who grew up in Ukraine, recently blew up an FPV (first-person view) drone loaded with a 9-pound bomb, wiping out Russian troops.

An estimated 300 Russian troops have taken a year and a half of Darkno's breath, more than Chris Kyle, who was called the best sniper in U.S. military history during the Iraq War, killed.

Citing this example, the newspaper said that young Ukrainians who only played games are being reborn as lethal snipers in modern warfare based on their drone control skills.

What actually pays off on the battlefield today, rather than the often tough-looking soldiers, is the fragile young people of screen addiction who are unlikely to survive the battle.

The newspaper also pointed out that what drone control requires is not jiggling muscles, but fast thinking, sharp eyes, and agile thumb.

For most in their 20s, the popularity factor is that long-distance killing may seem like a video game rather than a real war, and that it is safe to work from a relatively far distance, unlike other troops who are directly deployed to the battlefield.

Ukraine is relying more on drone tactics to prevent Russian attacks as the long-running war has left it short of artillery and ammunition, the newspaper explained.

Faced with Ukrainian drones, Russian forces often try to escape the situation by pretending to be dead, but Ukrainian forces are catching and catching even the moment they sneeze or blink.

The Russian military is also increasing its ability to impede drone control, so the hit rate is about 1 in 3 cases, but the Ukrainian military stressed that Ukraine has the upper hand in terms of securing skilled pilots and technology, even though Russia can secure more drones.
