As life span increased, dementia became a disease that anyone could get.
In Gwangju, where the world's largest elderly brain big data was built, the 'Brain Disease Empirical Research Group (RID)' opened.
With
artificial intelligence, the clinical trial period of new medical technology is expected to be halved and the success rate doubled.
Reporter Kim Bum-hwan reports.

Dementia prediction technology research project launched 12 years ago at Chosun University in Gwangju,
We spent 52 billion won to examine 22,000 people aged 60 or older for dementia and secure precision medical big data for more than 12,000 people.
[LEE GUN HO / Head of the Research Group on Geriatric Brain Disease: I think our mission is to develop the original technology and make Korea's future food by going from this basic research to clinical relay research and commercialization]
The research team, which identified the cause of Asians' dementia better than Westerners and completed a standard Korean brain map, has now begun industrialization of senior healthcare.
In addition to securing precision medical big data following dementia prediction and diagnostic technology research, it has begun to establish a clinical demonstration platform for senile brain diseases.
[Kim Chun-sung / President of Chosun University: Through the launch of a research team to demonstrate senile brain disease, we want to take the lead in identifying the causes of senile brain disease and developing innovative prevention and treatments based on existing research results]
To this end, the research team will use precision medical big data to develop the world's first AI doctor specializing in senile brain diseases.
The research team predicts that using the AI clinical trial platform will halve the time it takes to commercialize new digital health medical technologies, while nearly doubling the success rate.
Through constant follow-up management, there are about 10,000 elderly people in Gwangju who can immediately participate in clinical trials necessary for digital healthcare industrialization.
[Kang Ki-jung / Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City: Many companies across the country will visit Gwangju for clinical trials and Chosun University, which will make Gwangju a hub of demonstration and a demonstration city.]
The social and economic cost of one million people with dementia in Korea is about 25 trillion won.
Gwangju's 'Elderly Brain Disease Empirical Research Group' (RID) aims to produce at least three listed companies through 20 advanced medical technology clinical demonstrations over the next four years.
