The U.S. is holding not only a presidential election, but also a federal congressional election today.

It is to elect 34 seats, or 1/3 of the total number of seats in the House of Representatives for two years in office and 100 Senate seats for six years in office.

Attention is being paid to which party will win the majority of seats and hold congressional power, with Republicans in the Senate and both parties in the House of Representatives predicting a fierce neck-and-neck race.

The House of Representatives, the first gateway to the government budget, currently has a majority of 218 seats out of 435.

The Senate, which has the power to approve key government figures, is controlled 51 to 49 by Democrats.

A majority of pollsters predict Republicans will win the majority in the Senate.

This is because Republicans are likely to take seats in the Republican-dominated states of West Virginia and Montana.

Every pollster pointed to Ohio, where Democrats are active, as the battleground to decide the outcome.

The House of Representatives, which elects all 435 people every two years across the United States, is expected to be more competitive.

Depending on the research institution, some predict the Republican Party's advantage and others predict the Democratic Party's victory.

If Republicans win the majority in the House of Representatives after the Senate, they will have full control of federal congressional power in six years.

In this year's federal upper and lower house elections, Korean politicians will also face a series of challenges.

In particular, Rep. Andy Kim, a Democratic New Jersey three-term congressman, is highly anticipated as he is likely to advance to the federal Senate.

If elected, Kim will make history as the first federal senator in Korea.

Three Korean-American congresswomen, Marilyn Strickland, Young Kim and Michelle Park Steel, will also seek a third term side by side.
