South Korea, the United States, North Korea and Russia engaged in a fierce war of words at an official meeting of the U.N. Security Council convened over the launch of North Korea's new ICBM, or intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasong-19."

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Robert Wood strongly criticized North Korea's continued missile launches for clearly violating relevant Security Council resolutions, and Russia and China are protecting North Korea.

Anna Evstigniva, Russia's deputy ambassador to the United Nations, said the U.S., which helps Ukraine, is only putting a double standard on Russia and warned against South Korea being strongly influenced by the U.S.

Hwang Joon-guk, the ambassador to the United Nations, said the ICBM launch showed that there were loopholes in the North's embargo, stressing that it is very worrisome for North Korea and Russia to strengthen their relationship through dispatch of troops.

In response, North Korean Ambassador to the United Nations Kim Sung claimed that the ICMB launch was a drill to defend his country against Western nuclear threats and that it was a legitimate measure that did not damage neighboring countries.
