Our delegation will attend COP29, the 6th General Assembly of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in Azerbaijan from the 11th to inform each country of its carbon neutrality efforts.
The Ministry of Environment said it plans to send a government delegation to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, from the 11th to the 22nd to promote the excellent carbon reduction technologies of domestic companies.
At the same time, it will emphasize efforts to expand its carbon-free energy plan, and the CFE plan proposed by the Korean government to the international community last year calls for recognizing not only renewable energy but also nuclear power and hydrogen technology as a means of reducing carbon.
However, internationally, the RE100 campaign to achieve carbon neutrality only with renewable energy such as solar and wind power is more widely used.
Our delegation will send a delegation with Minister of Environment Kim Wan-seop as the chief representative and Cho Hong-sik, Ambassador to the Climate and Environment, as the chief representative.
The most notable discussion at this COP29 is on the 'New Climate Funding Goals and NCGQ' after 2025. Under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, developed countries must provide funds to support developing countries' greenhouse gas reduction and adaptation to climate change.
This year's COP29 requires the creation of more than $100 billion in new climate resources annually, but there is a great disagreement in terms of the specific size and scope of the funding and the scope of the donor countries.
In addition, detailed implementation guidelines for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on the international carbon market will be discussed, with a big framework for transferring carbon reduction results between countries, but issues remain in the detailed guidelines for implementation.
