Although there are a series of ground-breaking accidents in various parts of the country due to aging water and sewage pipes and abnormal climate, it is pointed out that related measures are still insufficient.

[Fact Tracking] According to the report, 805 ground subsidence cases occurred across the country for four and a half years from 2020 to June this year, killing one person and injuring 44 others.

There were 403 cases of ground loss due to damage to water and sewage pipes, accounting for half of the total, and the maintenance of 158,000 kilometers of old water and sewage pipes more than 20 years old has not kept up with the pace of increase in old pipes.

In the end, experts criticize that it is important to solidify basic data containing geological structure and ground subsidence information and to find and prepare for areas concerned about land loss in advance, but the related equipment and manpower are extremely insufficient.

It also argues that each ministry's underground facility management information should be organically integrated and utilized, and the ground subsidence risk area management system, such as risk assessment methods, should be improved.

The YTN investigative report program [Fact Tracking], which will be broadcast on the night of the 13th, focuses on the actual condition, cause, and prevention measures of ground-breaking accidents in the city center that can cause massive casualties and property damage.
