In Ulsan, there are many citizens who remember the Jongha Gymnasium, which was donated by Mr. Lee.

Mr. Lee's son inherited his father's will and turned the old gym into a complex cultural space.

It is a modern building with a total area of nearly 20,000 square meters on the first basement floor and the sixth floor above Ulsan City Hall.

It is a newly created "Jongha Innovation Center" at the place where Ulsan's first indoor sports facility, "Jongha Gymnasium," was located.

Jongha Gymnasium was built with land and money donated in 1977 by the late Lee Jong-ha, who led the community as a social activist in Japanese colonial era.

Although it was loved as a local sports and cultural space for nearly half a century, discussions on reconstruction began due to growing safety concerns as the facilities were old.

However, while the construction was delayed due to budget problems, Lee's son, KCC Information and Communication Chairman Lee Ju-yong donated 33 billion won, and the reconstruction work began.

[Lee Sang-hyun / KCC Auto Group Vice Chairman (Lee Jong-ha's grandson): I am proud to see that my father donated to the re-establishment of the general gymnasium and spent money well.]

On the first floor of the ground, a facility with existing gym functions and a small space to understand the intentions of donors were prepared.

On the second floor, there is a futuristic library that experiences information and communication technology.

In addition, the 3rd to 6th floors are equipped with childcare spaces and venture investment support facilities to support young entrepreneurs.

Sports facilities have been reborn as cultural start-up spaces.

[Kim Doo-gyeom / Mayor of Ulsan Metropolitan City: We will do our best to become a complex space for culture, education, and start-ups where future generations who will be the main players of Ulsan can learn and fulfill their dreams.]

The Jongha Innovation Center, named after the first donor, will open in January next year after the internal renovation.

The son's donation, which played a role until the end in making the donation seeds planted by his father bear fruit, is considered an example of his love for his hometown and responsibility for society.
