Student athletes who were unable to participate in the competition due to their academic performance falling short of the standard will also be able to participate in the competition in the future.
The Ministry of Education announced that it will temporarily suspend the application of Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the School Sports Promotion Act after deliberation by the Active Administrative Committee.
The provision stipulates the minimum academic background system that the principal should not allow students to participate in the competition prescribed by Ordinance of the Ministry of Education if they do not reach a certain level of academic standards.
The exception was only applied to high school students, but elementary and middle school students were not allowed to participate in the competition if they did not meet the grade standards.
On the 5th, the National Assembly's Board of Education passed a revision to the School Sports Promotion Act that allows student-athletes to participate in the competition if they complete the basic education guarantee program, even if they do not meet the academic standards.
In response, the Ministry of Education also held an active administrative committee to suspend the application of existing legal provisions and allow new legal provisions to be implemented first.
