Police have arrested a group of people who opened a mobile phone under someone else's name, smuggled it out to China, used it for voice phishing crimes, and laundered the proceeds of the crime.

The Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency arrested 144 people and handed them over to the prosecution, including arresting a 50-year-old man in China for misusing voice phishing crimes by stealing a cannon phone to China.

Mr. A and others are accused of stealing 5 billion won from 126 people for voice phishing crimes by taking 55 fake phones that were opened in Korea to China for nine months from October last year.

Police have found that more than 3,400 fake phones have been smuggled into China over the past seven years, and most of them are believed to have been used for voice phishing crimes.

The police also booked 18 people and handed them over to the prosecution in May on charges of laundering the source of funds by converting about 600 million won of their voice phishing crime into virtual currency or buying luxury goods at duty-free shops.

The police plan to expand the investigation by identifying 10 people, including the chief of China's voice phishing, and issuing an Interpol red notice.
