The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office today (13th) demanded a two-year prison term for Choi Jae-won, former head of Yongsan-gu Health Center, who is accused of falsely reducing his arrival time at the site to an employee during the Itaewon disaster.
The prosecution argued that the former director Choi was only careless and that the crime was poor because he was passing the blame on his employees.
In response, the former director Choi denied the crime, saying that he had never ordered the arrival time to be written falsely and did not recognize that the contents of the report were false.
Former director Choi was put on trial in March last year on charges of ordering employees to write down their arrival time at the scene of the Itaewon disaster to 11:30 p.m., about 30 minutes earlier than the actual time in five reports.
Choi's first trial will be held on January 8 next year.
