The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's anti-corruption investigation team has launched an investigation into officials of the sports association, including Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the Korea Sports Association, who is suspected of hiring employees illegally.

Chairman Lee is suspected of unfairly ordering senior officials in the athletes' village to ease qualification requirements so that his daughter's college friend can be hired as an employee of the national athletes' village in 2022.

Chairman Lee is also suspected of receiving 80 million won worth of goods from the chairman of a specific sports organization close to him and giving him a major position related to the Paris Olympics.

Officials who are also subject to the investigation are accused of embezzling sponsored items.

Earlier on the 10th, the government's joint public service inspection team in the Cabinet Office asked the police to investigate eight people, including Chairman Lee, saying it confirmed the situation of the Korean Sports Council's irregularities.
