Unlawful fishing, Chinese fishing boats seized...The search for the sunken fishing boat.

An unauthorized Chinese fishing boat operating in our exclusive economic zone was captured by the Coast Guard.

The Jeju Coast Guard received a report yesterday at around 2 p.m. that several Chinese fishing boats turned off their automatic identification devices and were illegally operating in waters 126km southwest of Chagui Island in Jeju City.

The Coast Guard first sent a helicopter to film a Chinese fishing boat raising its net, and after tracking down a fishing boat that ran away despite the order to stop with a patrol boat that arrived at the scene at around 5 p.m., it succeeded in arresting it after about four hours.

In the process, about 10 other unauthorized Chinese fishing ships surrounded our ship or threatened our crew members who climbed the ship in the conclusion.

A Coast Guard official said that Chinese fishing boats appear to have been engaged in illegal fishing, taking advantage of the recent mobilization of a large number of our coast guard vessels in the search for sunken fishing boats.
