In order to revitalize the economy in areas where the population is declining, it has been analyzed that the increase in the number of visitors through travel and sports has a great effect.
According to an analysis of credit card consumption patterns in population declining areas over the past three years by the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, non-residents account for more than 40% of the region's total consumption expenditure.
Non-residents, in particular, spent 60% more than residents in the travel industry and 13% more in the sports sector.
The researcher pointed out that it is necessary to develop a variety of travel, sports, and cultural products that can increase local visits and stays in order to prevent local extinction due to low birth rates.
