Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader Khamenei, has signaled his support for discussions on a ceasefire in Lebanon, Reuters reported.

"The purpose of this visit is to emphasize support for the Lebanese government and its people," Larijani told a news conference after meeting with Lebanese National Assembly Speaker Nabi Berry and Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Asked if he was visiting to deter U.S. efforts to end the war between Israel and Hezbollah, he pointed out that "Iran seeks to solve the problem without trying to interfere with any efforts, but it is Netanyahu and Israel that are causing confusion."

"Iran supports Lebanon in any situation," he said, adding, "I hope the situation in Lebanon will improve soon so that refugees can return home."

Lebanon's prime minister's office also issued a statement regarding the ceasefire discussions, saying "contact is being made to reach an agreement."

The day before, Reuters reported that the U.S. delivered a draft ceasefire deal to Berry through U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson.
